The SCCDM decided to activate the distance learning system for all private schools in Dubai on Thursday and Friday, May 2 and 3, due to the weather conditions the emirate is expected to witness during that period, in order to ensure the safety of all students and school cadres.

It affirmed the readiness of all concerned parties to deal with the expected weather condition, and full readiness to confront the effects of weather fluctuations and rainfall, in coordination with Dubai Police, Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), Dubai Municipality, Dubai Airports, Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA), and the General Department of Civil Defence, Dubai Health, Land Department, the Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services, the private sector and a number of real estate development companies.

During the meeting, emergency plans and special preparations to proactively deal with the weather situation were reviewed, along with the media plan from the Dubai Government Media Office for dealing with the effects of the situation was also reviewed.

The meeting also reviewed the efforts made to handle the repercussions of the weather condition Dubai and the UAE has witnessed recently.

Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai, reviewed the efforts of the teams to address the consequences of the exceptional weather condition, as he explained that the committee dealt with the effects of the weather condition successfully,  quickly and efficiently, in coordination with strategic partners.

Dubai Police are reminding motorists to exercise caution and to follow the rules during rainy and unstable weather conditions.

In a statement, the authority has stressed the importance of reducing speed, maintaining a safe distance, avoiding distractions and not taking pictures or using the phone while driving.

Motorists are also advised to stay clear of valleys and areas prone to flooding.

Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, Director of the General Department of Traffic, warned of strict action against reckless drivers and those who indulge in stunts or pose a risk to other road users.

“Offenders who pose a risk to road users would be arrested, their vehicles impounded and referred to judicial authorities for further legal action,” he explained.
