The Sharjah Civil Defence’s firefighting teams controlled and put out the fire that erupted in a school bus on Wednesday afternoon on Al Khan Road, Sharjah. No human injuries were reported, official sources at the Civil Defence confirmed.
The Operations Room of the Civil Defence received a report at 2:52 p.m. stating that a school bus carrying students had caught fire on Al Khan Road. Accordingly, firefighting teams were dispatched from the Mina Station, along with police patrols and national ambulances to the scene.
In the first moments of the fire, the bus crew, with the support of passers-by, succeeded in evacuating the bus completely from the students, and ensuring their safety, until the arrival of the Civil Defence teams.
They were able within 15 minutes to control the fire and complete the cooling operations at the site of the accident. Meanwhile, the police patrols diverted the traffic movement on Al Khan Road, as a result of the traffic congestion caused by the fire.
The fire damaged the bus completely, in addition to partial damage to the front of a small bus that was behind the burnt bus, as it was stopping due to closure of the traffic light. The scene was handed over to the competent authorities to determine causes of the fire.
