Under the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Sheikh Shakhbout Bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State, on Sunday officially opened the desalination plants that the UAE had installed in the Egyptian city of Rafah to pump desalinated drinking water to Gaza inhabitants.

The UAE installed as many as six water desalination plants with a total capacity of 1.2 million gallons per day, benefiting around 600,000 people.

The plants were completed in a record time of no more than three weeks. Sheikh Shakhbout was accompanied by a high-ranking delegation of senior officials from various official entities and humanitarian establishments in addition to a number of members of the Federal National Council.

The UAE under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan is determined to continue its noble and humanitarian endeavors to support the Palestinian brothers, particularly children and women, and help them overcome these difficult situations, Sheikh Shakhbout said.

Based on this, these plants had been installed as part of the Galant Knight 3 humanitarian operation, which Sheikh Mohamed ordered to provide relief aid to the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and supply clean and sustainable water to them during the difficult situations they are currently facing, he added.

The success of pumping water into the Gaza Strip came at a time when Gaza inhabitants were suffering from a scarcity of clean water. The water line will supply the shelters with their necessary daily needs of drinking water.
