Sheikh Sultan has played a key role in strengthening the Scouting movement.

As part of its monthly 'Award story' series, Dr Sultan Al Qasimi Centre is celebrating this month the prestigious Baden-Powell Medal, presented to His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, on February 5, 2016, and the global scouting movement that represents universal principles of leadership, service to humanity and social responsibility.

The Baden-Powell Medal, the highest World Scouting community honour awarded by King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden, Honorary President of the World Scout Foundation, had been conferred on His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah for his pioneering role in supporting the Scouting movement in the region and around the world.

The awarding of the Baden-Powell Medal to the Ruler of Sharjah was a powerful recognition of his extensive contribution to the Scouting movement worldwide. He has played a key role in strengthening this movement, nurturing young leaders, and providing an environment in which the passion for exploration and adventure is transformed into skills to serve society, self-improvement and strengthening the spirit of responsibility.

Honouring the Sharjah Ruler also acknowledges the Emirate's key role in developing youth skills.

The prestigious international recognition reaffirms the global scouting community's appreciation of the role played by the Ruler of Sharjah in supporting scouting initiatives that hone young people's personalities, build their bodies and minds and arm them with essential life skills, values and principles and opening opportunities to engage in building society.

Choosing the Sharjah Ruler for the global honour also underscores the status of the Emirate as a global centre for empowering youth, developing leadership skills apart from instilling in them a love of learning, exploration, and community service.

The Ruler of Sharjah is the fourth international figure to receive the Baden-Powell Medal, an invaluble token of appreciation and support by the World Scout Committee for the Emirate and its leader.
