ABU DHABI: The 15th Abu Dhabi Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition (Adihex) that attracted regional and international visitors to some of the latest high tech products for hunting and many other outdoor sports and activities concluded on Saturday.

The five-day exhibition also showcased the very popular taxidermy. Having the only taxidermy display in this year’s Adihex 2017 was Hashem Ghali, the owner of “BuyTaxidermy” stall, who boasted a display of his stuffed trophies namely zebra, giraffe, deer, reindeer, and buffalo, among others.

Speaking to The Gulf Today Ghali, from Namibia Safari Corporation, who set up the stall at Adihex for the first time this year, said, “Though many visitors showed interest in my stuffed animals, I yearn to encourage this art and explain it’s joy to those who are really keen and want more UAE customers seeking out my services.”

He has a dedicated team equipped with the necessary experience, skills and resources to offer a one-stop taxidermy service and has already found visitors enthusiastic about his products.

Jeff Fuze at BuyTaxidermy told The Gulf Today that the display has been extremely successful generating a lot of interest and inquiries. Fuze said, “We have sold many pieces and have more on order. The locals were definitely the most interested, with the Oryx being the best selling piece followed by the Cape Buffalo.”

Taxidermy is a general term describing the many methods of reproducing a life-like three-dimensional representation of an animal for permanent display where the actual skin (including the fur, feathers or scales) of the specimen is preserved and mounted over an artificial armature.

Adihex is an important event for many people as it helps not only to preserve and promote the rich heritage of the region but also celebrates the deep-rooted heritage and rich culture of the region in hunting, horsemanship and falconry.

It also provides a suitable setting for manufacturers of guns, hunting vehicles, shooting, fishing, falconry, other outdoor sports equipment and accessories.

Moreover, being his first trip to the Middle East and UAE, Fuze, who hails from USA, said that he was extremely impressed by the UAE and Abu Dhabi. “I was most impressed by the warmth and hospitality of the people. Emiratis have treated me extremely well. I have travelled all over the world and have never experienced a more friendly and generous culture.

“I have also loved the local Arabic food, it is fantastic. I look forward to a return trip with my family and telling all my friends in America what a great place the UAE really is,” he said.
