DUBAI: Major electronics retailers are feeling the growth in sales, with footfalls expected to grow in tandem at the ongoing Gitex Shopper 2013 show that entered its second day in Dubai on Monday.
Tech-savvy consumers are witnessing a wide range of ingenious high-tech products being released from leading brands in the technology field at the Gitex Shopper.
The show offers a veritable feast of convergence gadgets with electronic majors showcasing their latest products, right from tablet PCs to smart phones and latest in laptops.
The eight-day exhibition brings to the fore the raging tablet and smartphone war at the very outset, with electronic giant players trying to compete with brands.
The exhibitors confirmed that consumer sentiments are at their peak, thanks to a buoyant economy and improvement in the overall business scenario in the UAE. Gitex Shopper has since inception been about new product launches with aggressive bundles and this is also the period when show goers upgrade to new devices.
In this part of the Arab world, consumers are open to spending, and are tech-savvy when it comes to the latest gadgets said one of the retailers.
Typically, the top-selling categories at the show have been Laptops, which remains one of the most popular segment along with smartphones at Gitex.
This includes a few new launches, along with tablets that also share the spotlight. However, it’s the hybrids of PC-tablet in one that will lure buyers with new innovative technology.
The newly unveiled multi-mode Flex laptops by Lenovo, which creatively flip 300 degrees, showcases a new way to interact with PCs to create a more natural, comfortable touch experience for the user. In fact the UAE is the first country in the world to offer the Lenovo A10 Android multi-mode notebook, says Mohammed Hilili, General Manger-Gulf Lenovo Middle East & Africa. He disclosed that the unique dual-mode A10 notebook weighs a feather-light 1 kg, and has a 10-point multi-touch screen that flips 300 degrees, so it can be used in either laptop or stand mode. With up to nine hours of battery life and easy access to a wide range of apps, through the Android app store, the A10 is perfect for entertainment and web browsing on the go.
Smartphones, which continues to rule the shopping segment, will see several key players battling it out with new launches, including Samsung, HTC, Nokia and the BlackBerry.
As previous years, Samsung Gulf Electronics is also prominently present at the show with their new launches of the year on display right at the entrance.
The first day sales at this year’s Gitex Shopper have been great, with triple the sales as compared to previous years,” said Hayssam Yassine, head, Telecommunications Group, Samsung Gulf Electronics.
He said the giant electronic company is showcasing the Samsung Galaxy S4, Note 3 and Gear smartwatch which has got good response since the show began.
Yassine said showgoers also have the opportunity to drive away with a brand new BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe from the Samsung stand at Gitex as long as they can spend Dhs1000 or more on products to win a chance.
Asked what is the highlight that Samsung offers this season at the show? Yassine explains that the focus is mainly on the Samsung Galaxy experience, the Galaxy Gear frees users from the need to constantly check their smart devices while maintaining connections.
Galaxy Gear, Samsung’s first ever wearable device, is expected to further boost the global consumer electronics major’s market presence.
We are working on a software update to make Galaxy Gear, presently compatible with Galaxy Note 3, work with our flagship devices such as the Galaxy S4, Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2, disclosed Yassine. He added that Samsung Galaxy Note 3 which is a powerful, original approach that enables users to tell the stories of their lives through dynamic and seamless expressions of their passions across work, play and life experiences, is also moving as hot cakes.
Going by the way the market is behaving and the fantastic sales that we have achieved since the opening day of Gitex Shopper, we expect sales will touch record high by the end of the event, said Neelesh Bhatnagar, CEO of Emax Electronics.
He added that Emax presence at Gitex Shopper 2013 is stronger than ever, with lots of attractive offers, bundle offerings and discounts going up to 25 per cent to ensure visitors experience will be exciting and enjoyable.
Gitex Shopper also witnessed the launch of a new phone the “Lenovo A516” which comes with a 4.5 IPS screen for watching videos and photos and a balanced base 9.9 millimeter thick that fits your hand size, the phone is also equipped with front and rear cameras.
Gamers are also flocking to purchase the “Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p” which is equipped with the latest Intel Core processor and a backlight keyboard, as for Tablets the “Lenovo Yoga” comes in 2 editions Yoga 11 and Yoga 13.
The region’s largest retail IT expo being held at the Dubai World Trade Centre, has attracted over 30,000 gadgets and bumper raffle draws that include the chance to drive home in an Opel Astra all week, over the eight-day event.
While traditionally, bundle offers forms the backbone of Gitex Shopper, retailers this year have confirmed that hefty discounts, up to 25 per cent in some cases will also attract consumers.
Nokia is getting aggressive over its flagship model, the Lumia 1020, with Samsung being the other big player with its Galaxy Note III and the Gear and definitely new colours launched for its older models.
“The Nokia Lumia 1020 delivers a wealth of imaging innovation not seen on any other smartphone. Nothing gets as close with the 41 megapixel sensor, as the device allows users to see things they never thought possible,” says Vithesh Reddy, General Manager, Nokia Lower Gulf.
The exclusive UAE debut at Gitex Shopper is the ideal platform for Nokia to showcase the device, which establishes a new benchmark in smartphone imaging to date.
Samsung Gulf Electronics is also showcasing some of their top range products, that includes the new Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Gear, as well as the incredibly popular Galaxy S4, which will be available in Autumn Brown with Gold and Twilight Pink with Gold.
Toshiba’s most portable Tablet in addition to showcasing their array of touchscreen laptops and latest models of hybrid notebooks, Tablets, All-in-One desktop PCs and gaming laptops are some of the high-end products being showcased at the show, says Santosh Varghese, General Manager-MEA, Digital Products and Services, Toshiba Gulf.
Exhibitors expect double-digit growthDUBAI: Most of the dealers, interviewed by The Gulf Today, said they are registering a double-digit growth at the event, adding that consumers in the UAE are well versed and conversant with the changing world of technology.
“If you look around, you can see a crowd of youth trying out the latest gadgets being showcased here and many of them are familiar with the operations of the electronic gadgets,” says Ashish Panjabi, COO of Jacky’s Electronics.
We are seeing a huge difference among shoppers at this year’s show. It is not the price of the gadgets that they are looking out, but for more better features and latest technology,” explains Hayssam Yassin, Head of Telecommunications group, for Samsung Gulf Electronics.
He added that consumers are ready to pay the price for any good electronic gadget as longer as they get the best in the market and they obviously know the brand they are looking for.
