Pak community gears up for country’s 70th I-Day celebrations

SHARJAH: The Pakistani community in the UAE is gearing up to celebrate the 70th Independence anniversary of Pakistan on Aug.14 along with their brethren all over the world. In this regard, Pakistani missions and social organisations have been finalising the series of events to bring all segments of the community on a single platform to extend peace, unity and prosperity message to the world.

The official ceremony of flag hoisting and reading of messages of president and prime minister of the country will be held at the Pakistan Embassy in Abu Dhabi and Consulate in Dubai. These ceremonies have been attended by community members from different segments, officials from the missions and schoolchildren from the community schools every year to show their commitment to the country and collectively pledged to protect the country from all sorts of malice from the enemies.

Pakistan Association Dubai is also hosting a major family event, ‘Sohni Dharti Night,’ on Aug,18 to celebrate the country’s 70th Independence.

Tariq Rehman, member executive committee of PAD, told The Gulf Today that the event will be national and patriotic song-oriented and all activities will focus on encouraging families to participate in the song competition throughout the evening.

“This year we change the theme of our independence day celebration to hold different activities as the national songs competition will be one of the major events and are open for everyone. We have invited a Karachi-based artist, Eng. Noman Shah, who is known for his unique style of national songs and worked with Junaid Jamshed,” he said.

The PAD will invite top officials from Pakistani missions from Abu Dhabi and Dubai to be part of the celebrations and attend the competitions to encourage the community, he said.

A photographic exhibition to portray the Pakistan Movement will also be held on the sidelines as part of the activities at PAD.

However, the Pakistan Social Centre Sharjah (PSCS) is also organising a 2-day Independence Day programme on Aug.17-18 for families in its premises.

During the 2-day event, families residing in Sharjah, Ajman and other Northern Emirates will enjoy a wide range of activities from songs, games, and a tableau performance by schoolchildren, with stalls showing Pakistani products. The consul general will be the chief guest on Aug.17 while staff of Pakistani missions will be attending the activities along with community members.

On Aug 18, the event will be focusing on families while the wife of the Pakistan Ambassador will be the chief guest. Furthermore, Dubai-based artist Sharafat Ali Shah in collaboration with the Pakistan Consulate in Dubai is organising an education based stage show on Aug.11. Prominent satirist Hanif Raja will also be performing in the play which will be held at the Pakistan Education Academy Dubai and the entry is free.

Moreover, community members as part of various political parties in Pakistan including Imran Khan’s Tehreek-e-Insaf also planned to provide different gatherings in Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman to celebrate the country’s 70th Independence with national fervour.
