ABU DHABI: The Majlises Affairs Office at the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince’s Court, in collaboration with the Ministry of FNC Affairs, organised a lecture focusing on the culture of political participation and its importance in building a sound parliamentary experience.

The lecture, delivered by Dr Ahmed Al Mansouri, a professor of law and international relations, reviewed the UAE’s successful experiment in holding parliamentary elections, as well as the political empowerment programme launched by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, which laid the foundation for the country’s bright future.

The lecture, which was held at the Salem Mohammed Al Rashedi Majlis, was attended by an audience composed of various segments of the community.

Dr. Al Mansouri noted that the constitution of the UAE had emphasised the importance of political participation in setting the basis for economic development, in line with the realities and potentials of the UAE.

“The empowerment speech, given by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan in 2005, constitutes a comprehensive national plan that includes expanding the role of the Federal National Council to provide guidance and support to the executive authority, and to be more attached to the issues of the country and citizens, and to enable participation through a gradual path,” he said.

The lectures are organised as part of the Ministry’s work to expand political awareness among members of the community.
