We’re back again at the yearly milestone, the 2nd of December. It has been 41 years since our country was founded by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan in 1971. 41 years since seven rulers, the founding fathers, joined together with a vision for unity and harmony to create this glorious country. What a tremendous 41 years they have been.

Great strides have been made in every sector from business, to agriculture, from the arts to the sports tracks. The United Arab Emirates is a beacon of accomplishments and achievements and its humanitarian efforts can match the best in the world.

In this issue we take a look at different historical aspects of our country. From the history of the UAE’s monetary system to the country’s first airport, Al Mahatta, built in Sharjah in 1932. We look at recent archaeological discoveries in all seven emirates, which provide a testimony to a prosperous and fascinating past. From the past we come to the present to find out who is making news in the art and fashion world. Footballers and golfers, authors and outstanding students, we celebrate the talented individuals who are the essence of what makes this country so special.

41 years is not a very long time in the life of a country. In fact it’s an amazingly short period of time when you look around and see what the UAE has become. Home to over 200 nationalities, the UAE and its people are the epitome of hospitality, never missing an opportunity to welcome strangers and make them feel at home.

National Day brings us all together, so let’s sit back and appreciate all the hard work and effort that has gone into making this country what it is. Let us recognise and be proud of our country and all the spectacular things to come. Happy 41st, UAE.
