‘Radio popularity still alive’

DUBAI: At a time, when ubiquitously social media platforms have grabbed the attention of everyone regardless of their routine, the multicultural community in the UAE still loves to listen to radio programmes, which cover all segments of society. There is no doubt that residents from the Western world, Asians and Arabs are radio fans as reflected by statistics.

The aforementioned remarks were made by Digby Taylor, Programme Director at Shock Middle East and Head of Radio Heart 107.1 in an exclusive interview with The Gulf Today.

Taylor commands 30 years of vast experience in directing, managing and presenting some of the biggest radio networks world-wide. He joined Shock Middle East in April 2016 and successfully launched Dance FM 97.8 followed by the launch of Heart 107.1 in November 2017 as well as affiliated digital stations.

The radio station delivers interesting and relevant content to listeners every day. Along with the biggest musical hits from the 90s and noughties, local and international news, inspirational topics, Heart 107.1 aims to tap into all communities in the UAE with its unique and fresh offering. “There was a period when radio went through an upheaval here, but now that Dance FM and Heart 107.1 have come on air, things have revived and steadied into a positive trend. healthy competition is a very cool thing,” he said while responding on industry in the country.

He also termed that the UAE as a great place to do radio that has an incredibly highly radio listenership in the world.

“It takes time to build any brand. The reaction to Dance FM in less than a year on air has been fantastic, we set out to do something different and the audience have taken to it in every way musically and in business. As for Heart 107.1, we knew from day one that this was going to be something special, and when we went live it clicked straightaway. The audience reaction at all times of the day is fantastic. Everyone has a heart,” he added.

Shock Middle East, a cutting-edge media-trading and broadcast company, is responsible for bringing Dance FM 97.8 and Heart 107.1 to UAE airwaves. It offers a diverse array of media solutions from producing promotional broadcast content to conceptualising and designing bespoke retail radio stations, offering businesses a comprehensive platform on which to increase sales revenue and brand reputation. He promised that the radio fans in the country will be delighted as “our next phase is to launch a new station in the coming months.”

The Heart 107.1 shows included Breakfast with Tim and Faris; Mornings with Heart; Afternoons with Fadi and Drive with Dave to cater to the demands of music in all segments of the society.
