DUBAI: Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) held its 15th Annual Inter School Environmental Public Speaking Competition recently at Dubai Knowledge Village.

EEG Chairperson Habiba Al Marashi defined sustainability as the quality of not being harmful to the environment or depleting natural resources, and thereby supporting long-term ecological balance, and stressed on the importance of sustainability and sustainable living in today’s day and age.  Al Marashi also added that a deeper understanding and knowledge was important, as our choices and actions of today could and will affect everything in the future.

The event attracted over 400 participants, comprising around 66 teams from government and private schools operating in various Emirates. The two-day event brought forth diverse nationalities from both Arabic and English medium schools, hence allowing for a sharing of different perspectives. The students were appreciative of this equal opportunity platform, and utilised it to its full potential through their fierce and competitive engagement with the topics. The variety of responses and delivery styles were a testament to how the competition develops students’ critical thinking, public speaking, and research skills. Al Marashi requested the audience to make sound decisions in order to avoid limiting the choices for generations to come. The winners of the 15th Interschool Environmental Public Speaking competition were: Ambassador Private School, Star International School, Dubai National School (Girls), Al Barsha and Dubai National School (Boys), Al Barsha.

Overall winners were Ambassador Private School and overall 1st runner-up: Dubai National School (Girls), Al Barsha and overall 2nd Runner-up: Star International School.
