We surely belong to Allah and to Him we shall return. Today prayers and homage are pouring in from across the region as we observe with a heavy heart the fourth death anniversary of the late Dr Abdullah Omran Taryam (May his soul rest in peace). He was a true pioneer of the UAE media industry who contributed greatly to his country as a statesman, scholar and influential figure. His ambition, dedication and values remain a source of inspiration, which encourages us all to cherish his legacy and keep striving for excellence and progress. He was the youngest Minister for Education and Justice Minister in the Cabinet of the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

The tragic news of his sudden demise four years back left the whole nation and the entire Gulf region in a state of shock. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, mourned the death of Dr Abdullah. Sheikh Mohammed said: “I offer condolences to our people on the death of Dr Abdullah Omran Taryam, Emirati loyal son, statesman and renowned mediaperson.

Today I lost a dear brother, Abu Khalid, and a loyal friend, known for good conduct, courage, clarity of opinion, intention and sense of belonging and loyalty to his homeland and leadership.” This statement by Sheikh Mohammed speaks volumes about the personality of Dr Abdullah Omran Taryam. The Gulf Today shares the views of business heavyweights and scholars who are deeply aggrieved over his untimely death.
