President, Italy PM hold discussion

AL AIN: President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan received on Tuesday afternoon at Al Rawda Palace in Al Ain the visiting Italian Prime Minister, Mario Monti, and his accompanying delegation.

General Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Foreign Minister, were also present at the meeting.

Sheikh Khalifa welcomed Monti and his entourage, praising the distinguished co-operation and friendly relations between the UAE and Italy.

The meeting held talks on bilateral relations and joint cooperation between the two countries and means of strengthening them, in addition to discussing the latest international developments.

The two sides also stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between the two countries in various fields. In this regard, they expressed their satisfaction with the growth in bilateral relations.

They also stressed the need to strengthen international understanding and cooperation to enhance security and stability in the Gulf region, the Middle East and the world as a whole, within the framework of international resolutions, the need for respect for the sovereignty of States and the need to promote world peace.

Sheikh Khalifa said that Monti’s visit will further strengthen and develop the co-ordination, consultation and cooperation between the two countries on the basis of their desire to achieve common interests.

He commended the role played by Italy on the regional and international levels to resolve crises and reduce conflicts.

For his part, the Italian Prime Minister hailed the UAE’s great achievements under the wise leadership of Sheikh Khalifa the Head of State, which, he said, had enabled the state to occupy a prestigious position on both regional and international levels.

He said that Italy appreciated the UAE’s modern experience and that he was looking forward to strengthen cooperation between the UAE and his country for the benefit of both peoples.

The meeting was attended by Sheikh Tahnoun Bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Ruler’s Representative in the Eastern Region, Sheikh Hazza Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, National Security Adviser, Sheikh Nahyan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation

Lt. General Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, Sheikh Hamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chief of the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince’s Court.

Sheikh Diab Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Sheikh Omar bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation, in addition to a number of other sheikhs, ministers and senior officials.

Also present were Abdul Aziz Bin Nasser Al Shamsi, UAE Ambassador to Italy, and Giorgio Starace, Italian Ambassador to the UAE along with the delegation accompanying the Italian official.
