SHARJAH: Sharjah Cricket Academy Red defeated Maxway Cricket Academy Blue by eight-wickets in the SCC Inter-Academy U-13 tournament held under the auspices of Sharjah Cricket Council at the Al Dhaid Cricket Village.
Maxway won the toss but the batsmen could muster only 104 for three in 20 overs. Mukul Jayraj top scored with 32, Atharva Inamadar 13 and Shishir got 28 from 30 balls.
In the run chase, SCA Red kept the scoreboard ticking. Hasan 22 off 36 balls, and Jeriff Syed 23 added 56 runs for the opening wicket.
Abhinav Singla slammed 23-ball 25 as SCA reached the target in the penultimate ball.
In the other matches, Desert Cubs Cricket Academy Yellow ousted MCC Zayed Cricket Academy by six wickets thanks to an unbeaten 20 from Owais Sajid while Desert Cubs Cricket Academy Blue overpowered Maxway Cricket Academy Red by nine wickets.
An unbeaten century partnership by Ashan Ali and Sandeep Shetty ensured New Medical Centre scored a convincing four-wicket win over United Bank Limited in the 39th Bukhatir League ‘A’ Division Tournament organised by the Sharjah Cricket Council.
NMC openers faced a tricky task chasing a target of 253 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. But openers Niresh Fernando (37, 33b, 6x4) and Shehan Hirudika (20, 35b, 3x4) added a half-century stand to the first wicket.
UBL stepped up their bowling attack and it paid off when NMC lost five wickets. At 110 for five, NMC needing a big partnership saw Ali and Nalin Thenuwara (21, 24b, 2x1, 1x4) settle things. But Sandeep, who joined Ali, took the game away from UBL as the duo ensured NMC reached the target comfortably in the 44th over.
While Ali played a gutsy knock of 71 not out from 75 deliveries consisting of five boundaries, Sandeep scored an unbeaten 49 from 48 balls including five hits to the fence and one over it. For UBL, Zaheer Maqsood was the pick of the bowler claiming three wickets.
Seven Seas triumph
Seven Seas Strikers beat Al Massa CC by 5 wickets to lift the 25th UAE National Day Cup. The Seven-A-Side cricket festival was played at the FairGrounds Oval, Dubai Mens College.
The cricket extravaganza was organised by Seven Seas Sports Club and was conducted under the auspices of the Dubai Cricket Council.
Batting first, Al Massa CC scored 72, losing two wickets in five overs.
Openers Yousaf and Asif scored 30 and 22 respectively.
Rashid of Seven Seas scalped two wickets. Chasing, Seven Seas attained the target of 73, losing a wicket in 5 overs. Salman and Qadir played an exceptional innings smashing 31 and 30 runs respectively.
