SHARJAH: DNJ Energy B defeated Developer Builder B (DBB) by one wicket in nail-biting thriller of the Rashid Alleem Premier League (RPL) Season 3 at the Al Dhaid Cricket Village on Wednesday.

DNJB bundled out DBB for 106 in 17.5 overs and knocked down the winning run for the loss of nine wickets with 5.5 overs to spare.

Batting first, DBB got off to a decent start as both the openers added 28 runs for the first wicket before Basit Basit rattled the stumps of Muhammad Jawad (12) to give his team first breakthrough.

The other opener Azimuddin Shaikh (17) fell prey to a run out by Basit and DBB lost their second wicket with 54 runs on the board.

After the dismissal of both the openers, DBB kept on losing the wickets on regular interval and could not get the partnerships going. Basit and Sarath Sarath picked up two wickets each, conceding 15 and 23 runs respectively.

Chasing a modest target, DNJB got off to a faltering start, losing their first wicket with just five runs on the board. Riyas Mohammad, who took a four-wicket haul, ripped through the DNJB batting line-up.

He was ably supported by Saddam Ansari, who also picked up conceding 16 runs in his two overs. Riyas clean bowled Akhliesh and got Vishal caught by Raja to give them second jolt. In the next over, Ansari had Shahroz caught by Jawad reducing DNJB to 11-3. Riyas again struck in the quick succession to make it 36-5.

DNJB were struggling to save the match and needed someone to play a sheet anchor role.

Shahab (18) and Basit (39) knuckled down to revive the innings and took the score to 60-7. Basit also added 18 runs for the ninth wicket with Kalidoss (2) to take them near the target.

DNJB were 84-9 in 12 overs and still needed 23 runs to win with just one wicket in hand. But Basit held on to his nerves and added 23 runs with the lastman Mansih, who even did not get off the mark to DNJ across the line.

Basit hit four fours and one six in his 23-ball knock while Shahab (18), the other main scorer, hit two boundaries. Only Shahab and Basit could reach the double-figure mark.
