Filmmaker to direct fest

SHARJAH: The veteran Indian film-maker widely acclaimed as the “Father of Alternative Cinema”, Shyam Benegal, was honoured to be the Festival Director of the 3rd Edition of the All Lights India International Film Festival (ALIIFF).

ALIIFF is the brainchild of Sharjah-based engineer businessman and filmmaker, CEO of Aries Group of Companies, Sohan Roy, who instituted the Indywood Film Awards and announced this film carnival and the festival director for the third year now.

Roy is also the Founder Director of Indywood Film Carnival, the next edition of which will be held at the world’s largest film city Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad, India from Oct.7 to Oct.10, 2017.

Shyam Benegal is a seven-time winner of the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi. He was awarded by the Government of India, the Padma Shri in 1976 and the Padma Bhushan in 1991 and bestowed with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for the year 2005, the highest award in Indian Cinema for Lifetime Achievement. Also, reckoned as a well respected documentary filmmaker, Benegal is a legendary and one of the most influential filmmakers in India.

ALIIFF, the flagship event of Indywood Film Carnival, is a unique platform for the global film industry to portray excellence in film making. With an aim to inspire, nurture and integrate, ALIIFF brings together the different aspects of the Indian Cinema industry facilitating congregation of people and nations. The film festival will be organised by All Lights Film Society – the premier global film services organisation.

The ALIIFF saw an overwhelming participation of national and international delegates in 2016 making the event a grand success. The festival witnessed about 135 films from over 42 countries, grand red carpet screenings and networking events.

Indywood Film Carnival had its first edition at Kochi, India from Nov.15 to 19, 2015 followed by the second edition at Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad from Sept.24 to 27.

Breaking conventional finesse and embracing the unique cultural and linguistic Diaspora, the 3rd edition of the Indywood Film Carnival will celebrate exciting events including All lights India International Film Festival (ALIIFF), Indywood Film Market (IFM), International Film Business Awards, Golden Frames Award, Red Carpet closing ceremony, panel discussions, master classes, workshops, seminars, film tourism, investors’ meet, Excellence Awards and much more.
