ABU DHABI: The UAE Embassy in Sri Lanka has advised its citizens not to travel to areas affected by ethnic disturbances.

The embassy on its official Twitter account said, “The UAE Embassy in Sri Lanka urges Emiratis to stay indoors and remain vigilant and take precautions when travelling to Sri Lanka. The embassy also advises citizens to avoid crowded places because of the current situation in the Kandy area.”

The embassy also called upon citizens to communicate with the embassy in Colombo.  In case of emergency, Emiratis are advised to call the following numbers 0094112301601/ 0097180044444.

The government of Sri Lanka has  imposed a state of emergency — the first in its post-war history — and deployed hundreds of soldiers to Kandy as authorities struggle to restore order.
