DUBAI: Scores of fashion designers from India, Pakistan and many others based in the UAE are ready to compete for the Dubai Fashion Awards 2013 to be held in Dubai next month.

This was announced by Dr Vishwas Shrivastav, head of the organising committee, along with Aftab Shivdasani, a prominent Indian film actor at a press conference held in Dubai on Tuesday.

Dr Shrivastav pointed out that the subcontinent is well-known for its contribution to the fashion industry throughout the world and the designers and models are renowned for their capability. The Dubai Fashion Awards is an endeavour to bring forth the current creative talents and display their competence in Dubai,” he said.

Responding to a question, Aftab Shivdasani said: “I am part of the showbiz industry and Dubai is a place where you see people following the trends being set there.”

Dr Shrivastav said that the DFA has specially conceived the concept and every designer would be able to showcase their unique fashion collection through the select top models of the UAE. The jury consists of Aftab Shivdasani, Friha Altaf and the third one will be announced later, who will also be from Bollywood.
