SHARJAH: His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah, chaired the 36th meeting of the board of trustees at his office in UoS on Monday.
Sheikh Sultan began the meeting with a prayer for the late Dr Abdullah Omran Taryam, who he described as a dear friend and a colleague of study and struggle. Dr Abdullah passed away on Thursday. He was laid to rest in Sharjah on Friday.
Sharjah’s Ruler then welcomed the members of the board of trustees which had been recently formed, comprising a number of the world’s prominent academic and scientific personalities, in addition to a number of active national figures.
During the meeting, the board of trustees approved the organisational structure for administrative and financial affairs, and amended some chapters of the university’s regulations. Sheikh Sultan approved a fully-paid 60-day maternity leave for national and resident female employees. A number of teaching staff members were also promoted to the rank of professor and assistant professor.
The board of trustees also agreed that a centre for those with special needs be set up.
