DUBAI: A manager who harassed a jobseeker after inviting her for a job interview must spend three months behind bars to be followed by deportation, a jury ruled.

The Asian manager, 40, made use of the period when the Filipina visitor, 22, was alone with him inside one of the offices of the contracting company in Bur Dubai at around 11am on June 18 to commit the crime, she complained.

During a Dubai Criminal Court hearing on Oct.18, he denied the accusation. The court has ordered him to spend three months in prison after which he will be deported.

According to her complaint, she came to the UAE on April 30, drafted her CV and sent it to various companies including the contracting company. At around 9am someone from the company contacted her.

The caller asked about her name, age and marital status. She revealed that she was single. He summoned her for an interview at 11am and offered to pick her up from the metro station and transport her to the company.

He asked her to take the front seat. Along the way, he held out his hand to greet her. He squeezed her right hand twice while requesting to know whether she was married. She reminded him that she was single.

As soon as they entered the office he started touching her. She became scared, but did not react out of fear that he could harm her. He embraced her and tried bussing her neck. She pushed him away. He embraced her again.

She pushed him and told him to stop his moves. He smiled. She devised a plan of escape. She claimed that she wanted to use the washroom. He pointed her to the direction of the washroom. She instead walked to the main gate and left. She complained to her brother about the incident and the latter alerted the police.
