DUBAI: A maid who brokered a botched bid to smuggle heroin into Kuwait was jailed for ten years and fined Dhs50,000 plus deportation on Tuesday.

The Asian maid, FS, 32, was arrested with two compatriot drivers on June 11 after police learnt that she had handed them a consignment of 3.2kg for smuggling.

At the Criminal Court on Nov.11, she and both drivers MK, 40, and AD, 34, were charged with illicit possession of heroin. She denied. The drivers argued that it did not belong to them.

The court sentenced the drivers to the same punishment and ordered the confiscation of 1,000 Kuwaiti dinars that policeman seized with AK. They were proceeds of drug smuggling.

Under the directives a mastermind residing abroad, FS received heroin from a man in Sharjah’s Rolla area, contacted dealers in Kuwait, repackaged it and handed it to drivers to smuggle it.

Police arrested both drivers at the Jebel Ali Port’s cargo loading area at around 5pm. Both directed policemen to a plastic roll they had hidden under AD’s truck. They revealed they were about to export it to Kuwait.

Then police raided FS’s apartment in Sharjah and seized stained newspapers, tissues, plastic bags and a digital scale.
