Abdullah honoured with highest civilian order by Albanian President

Tirana: President of Albania Bujar Nishani has awarded the ‘’Order of Skanderbeg” on UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, in recognition of his significant role in bolstering bilateral ties between the two friendly countries.

President Nishani presented the highest civilian honour in the Republic of Albania to the visiting UAE Foreign Minister during an audience at the Presidential Palace in capital Tirana on Thursday.

Sheikh Abdullah conveyed to the Albanian head of state regards of the UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and his best wishes for further progress and prosperity for the Albanian people.For his part, President Nishani asked Sheikh Abdullah to pass his greetings to President Khalifa, emphasising his country’s keenness to strengthening its ties with the UAE.

He said his government pays special attention to relations with the UAE, given its international prominent status.

The Albanian president has urged UAE investors and businessmen to harness investment opportunities in his country.During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways of enhancing bilateral ties as well as a variety of topics of common interest.

Honorary award

Ramadan Muja, Mayor of the city of Prizren in Kosovo, bestowed upon Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister, the title of “Honorary Citizen of the city of Prizren”.

Sheikh Abdullah was granted the title during a working dinner hosted by the Deputy Prime Minister of Kosovo, Bahgat Bassole, in the presence of Enver Hoxhaj, Kosovan Minister of Foreign Affairs and Sheikh Abdullah’s accompanying delegation.

Sheikh Abdullah expressed his thanks to the Mayor of the city of Prizren on the honour he received during a joint press conference with Enver Hoxhaj.

He expressed his happiness with the development of the relationship between the UAE and Kosovo and confidence that his meetings in Kosovo will contribute to enhancing their good relationship, highlighting the fact that the UAE is seeking to strengthen its ties with Kosovo.

He pointed to the UAE and Kosovo’s intentions to sign more important agreements during the coming period.

Sheikh Abdullah stressed that the UAE was one of the first countries to recognise the Republic of Kosovo in 2008 and contributed to the mobilisation of other countries’ recognition of the nation, highlighting the UAE’s support for Kosovo’s membership in the United Nations and other international organisations.

 Sheikh Abdullah reaffirmed that he is looking forward to further cooperation in all fields and continuing to strengthen relations with Kosovo.

MoU signed

Sheikh Abdullah and Hoxhaj signed a cooperation agreement between the two countries in the field of air transport services.

During the meeting, which took place in the Kosovan capital, Pristina, both parties agreed on the mutual opening of embassies, along with plans to organise a forum for businessmen in Abu Dhabi to explore investment opportunities in Kosovo.

Sheikh Abdullah and Hoxhaj also reviewed topics of mutual interest and ways of boosting cooperation and developing bilateral relations to contribute to the achievement of the common interests of both countries, along with discussing the latest current, regional and international developments.

Bilateral talks

Sheikh Abdullah met in Albanian capital Tirana Ditmir Bushati, Albania’s Foreign Minister, and discussed with him avenues of joint cooperation between the two friendly countries.

The two ministers also exchanged views on a variety of issues of mutual concern and latest regional and international developments.

Sheikh Abdullah emphasised the UAE’s keenness on expanding prospects of cooperation ties with Albania.

For his part, the Albanian foreign minister expressed his hope for further strong ties with the UAE, praising progress and development the UAE has achieved in all walks of life.

At the end of the meeting, the two ministers signed an agreement on avoidance of double taxation on income.

The two countries also inked two memoranda of understanding on establishment of a joint UAE-Albania committee and on cooperation in higher education and scientific research.

In a joint press conference with his Albanian counterpart, the UAE Foreign Minister expressed satisfaction at the progress of relationship between the UAE and Albania, stressing that his current trip to Tirana would contribute to taking the good ties to new heights.

He noted that bilateral ties had seen remarkable development since the two countries established diplomatic ties in June 1992 thanks to regular exchange of high-level visits by leaders in the two countries over the years.

Sheikh Abdullah said his meetings with his Albanian counterpart was the third in the past six months.

He added that the signing of the financial economic and education agreements today underscored the UAE’s quest to further strengthen its bonds with Albania.
