DUBAI: His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai received Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan and his accompanying delegation visiting UAE for the World Government Summit 2019.

Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, while delivering the keynote address at the summit on Sunday, was all praise for Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid, whose realistic approach has made Dubai top choice for the business fraternity.

Separately, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces received Imran Khan.

The Pakistani leader said that he was impressed by Sheikh Mohammed’s investor-friendly policies and now he is following the same in his effort to attract foreign investors to Pakistan.

“Sheikh Mohammed had once told me that you must allow businesses to make money. Investors must make profits. The reason is simple, people don’t come into business for charity. Thus, we have started working on ease of doing business and changing our tax laws,” said Khan.

He also recalled Sheikh Mohammed’s business acumen when he had asked the Emirates airlines management to purchase new aircraft and engines in 2001, when the aviation industry was going through worst phase following the incident on Sept.11, 2001.

“We have started an ambitious reform programme. We are trying to improve all economic policies, trying to cut down on fiscal deficit, improve exports, cut down imports. When we got into power, we had massive fiscal deficit, current account deficit. But, Pakistan now has a chance (to grow). We already see optimism, investors are showing interest in coming to Pakistan. This is the time for Pakistan to take off,” said Kan.

“This is the time to come to Pakistan, don’t miss the boat,” he told investors.

Sheikh Mohamed welcomed Imran Khan and discussed with him cooperation and bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to enhance them in the best interest of the two countries.

They also reviewed the existing cooperation between the two sides in the political, economic, development domains and the two countries’ desire to promote them into wide horizons.
