CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu ruling Anna DMK general secretary Sasikala Natarajan spent a second day at a Bengaluru jail on Thursday, but her proxy Edappadi Palaniswamy was sworn in as chief minister of Tamil Nadu in Chennai on Thursday.
Palaniswamy took oath in Tamil, followed by 30 ministers in batches. Palaniswami has retained the crucial Finance Ministry he had in the outgoing government of O. Panneerselvam (OPS).
None from the Sasikala family was inducted into the cabinet, but it is obvious that her nephew Dinakaran, the ADMK deputy general secretary, will run the show.
Governor Vidyasagar Rao has given Palaniswamy 15 days to prove his majority support. The majority requisite is 117 in the assembly which has an effective strength of 233.
The assembly has, however, been convened on Saturday and the Sasikala faction said it was confident of proving its majority of at least 117 legistors in the house.
