ABU DHABI: Based on the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum has instructed that a comprehensive framework be developed for activating the Zayed Year Initiative and devising the executive mechanisms for achieving its noble objectives.

Meanwhile, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, said the Zayed Year is an occasion to celebrate late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the UAE founder’s achievements and their future effect.

The year 2018 will witness the elapse of 100 years on Sheikh Zayed’s birth.

To celebrate this historical event, the UAE government announced the year 2018 as Zayed Year.

The Vice President also instructed that an integrated agenda be developed to consolidate Zayed’s values and vision in all federal and local institutions.

“Zayed’s centennial anniversary is the centennial anniversary of homeland; Zayed was born, and so was the UAE dream. The UAE is living nowadays Zayed’s dream, which came true. Zayed, may Allah have mercy upon him, was able to overcome all the challenges he faced and to draw a clear path towards development and progress, away from the brilliant slogans.”

He was inspired by the philosophy of the school he established, which believed that nothing was impossible and that working hard and sincerely and having faith in the capabilities of citizens was the real way to excel and achieve regional and global leadership,” Sheikh Mohammed said.

“Sheikh Zayed was an example of enlightening leadership that had the power to confront challenges and take the initiative in such a manner that served the interests of citizens and enhanced their security and stability. Thanks to his wisdom and keen vision, Sheikh Zayed formulated the bases and constants that enabled the federal state to grow and develop. He had a profound belief in the value of union and looked at it as the only option, not only to confront challenges and risks but to enhance the stability and growth of the state as well. That is how the young federal state was able to give an example of successful union experiences in the modern age,” The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi said.

Under Sheikh Zayed’s reign, the UAE was able to be one of the advanced countries of the world and to witness high growth rates at all levels and citizens became the most important element of development.

Sheikh Zayed was born in 1918 and passed away in 2004.

A variety of events and strategic initiatives in the UAE and the world will be held in 2018 to highlight Sheikh Zayed’s values. The event is aimed at giving an opportunity for all individuals of the society from all age categories, all nationalities and all religions to take part in the initiative and fulfill Sheikh Zayed’s vision locally, regionally and globally.
