ABU DHABI: Abu Dhabi University, ADU, has offered Dhs50 m worth of scholarships to its outstanding students under the initiative “Our Youth Our Responsibility, Our Zakat Our Immunity,” in association with the Zakat Fund, to support the social and educational development of the UAE.

The annual initiative aims to help deserving students - who are eligible for financial support as per the conditions and criteria for zakat - to complete their bachelor’s programmes.

Since its inception in 2010, the initiative through Zakat Fund has achieved great success and collected Dhs50 million from zakat and other donations, helping to ease the financial burden of over 1,500 deserving students from underprivileged family backgrounds across ADU’s campuses in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Dubai, and its learning centre in Al Dhafra Region.

Ali Saeed bin Harmal Al Dhahiri, Chairman of ADU’s Executive Board, said, “This annual scholarship programme reiterates ADU’s sustained efforts and humanitarian role in supporting the educational and social stability of the UAE society. Our efforts articulate the directives of the UAE’s wise leadership to adopt social responsibility practices in the higher education domain in partnership with like-minded organisations.”

Al Dhahiri added that the initiative is in line with the “Year of Zayed 2018”.
