ABU DHABI: The Abu Dhabi Police succeeded in convincing an Asian in his 20s not to commit suicide by jumping from a telecommunications tower in the emirate.

The man climbed a Cellular Tower and was threatening to end his life.  The Abu Dhabi Police Central Command and Operations room received information at 2:30pm citing that a man was trying to commit suicide from one of the telecommunication towers.

Police teams, ambulances and patrols were immediately dispatched to site to handle the situation. Brigadier General Musallam Mohammad Al Amiri, Director at the Directorate of External Police, said that the man took to the telecommunication tower, threatening to end his life because he was having problems in life and found it difficult to solve them. Police cordoned off the area and took necessary measures to maintain safety.

After a brief negotiation, the police were able to convince the man to come down from the tower and value the importance of preserving his life.

An investigation has been launched into the incident.
