VP visits ‘Protectors of The Nation’ exhibition

DUBAI: Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum said that the sacrifices and accomplishments of the UAE Armed Forces are a source of pride for every Emirati.

“Since its inception, our Armed Forces have kept pace with global developments in training and preparation of personnel, who represent the main asset of any defence system.

“The development process also included the acquisition of the latest weapons to ensure our Armed Forces always held the edge in the field,” Sheikh Mohamed said.

“It’s our duty to teach the current generation about the glorious history of our Armed Forces not only to instill patriotism in them, but also to make them aware of the history of the nation and the sacrifices made to safeguard its progress.”

Sheikh Mohammed’s remarks came during his visit to an exhibition titled ‘Protectors of the Nation … Sacrifice And Giving’, held at the Etihad Museum in Dubai.

Sheikh Mohammed was accompanied by Deputy Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Maktoum Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

The exhibition was organised by the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority in partnership with the UAE Ministry of Defence and the General Command of the UAE Armed Forces.

Sheikh Mohammed toured the exhibition, which traces the history of the UAE Armed Forces. The growth of the UAE Armed Forces parallels the growth of the UAE as a nation starting from the establishment of the Union on 2nd December 1971.

The exhibition, which will run for six months, also highlights the diverse contributions of the UAE Armed Forces under the guidance of UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and the support of Sheikh Mohammed, and the close follow up of Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, such as participation in many global relief campaigns and peacekeeping initiatives.

Sheikh Mohammed also watched a short movie on the development of the UAE Armed Forces and its participation in UN peacekeeping forces and humanitarian missions.

Present during the visit were President of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum;  Sheikh Mansour Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum; Minister of Cabinet Affairs and the Future Mohammed Abdullah Al Gergawi; Minister of State for Defence Affairs Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Bowardi; Mohammed Ahmed Al Murr; and Assistant Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Defence Lt. General Mohammed Abdul Rahim Al Ali, apart from senior officials.
