Dubai: An informant and his cohorts who tried to frame a rival salesman into a drug case have lost a clemency plea at the Dubai Appeals Court.

The Asian informant, 24, with the help of a compatriot businessman, 29, and dyer, 31, dropped a bag containing three meth capsules in the shop of a Bangladeshi salesman, 35, on Sept.11.2017.

He then alerted the Antinarcotics Department that the salesman was consuming and peddling drugs and possessed a stash of drugs, according to records at the Naif Police Station.

However, their malicious bid fell flat and police nabbed them. They denied the charges at the Criminal Court. The court convicted them and jailed them for three years plus deportation.

They appealed while claiming that a friend handed them the bag to deliver it without being aware it contained banned drugs. The Appeals Court has rejected their plea.

A police team was dispatched upon the informant’s tip off that the salesman was in his shop. An Emirati lieutenant revealed that they discovered the salesman’s shop was situated near the police station.

A corporal combed the shop and seized a plastic bag containing a carton of natural hair. He found the pills within the hair. The salesman argued that it was the businessman and dyer who left it in his shop.

He said he ran after them to inform them they had forgotten their bag in his shop but they claimed they would return in five minutes to pick it up. The incident appeared on surveillance camera footage.

Police confronted the informant about the source of his information. He claimed that the businessman was the one who told him the salesman had drugs. Police examined the footage thoroughly.

The businessman appeared entering the shop carrying a bag. The dyer got it from him and placed it inside the shop. The informant also appeared in the footage.

The dyer on being questioned told cops that the informant and businessman had told him to place it in the shop.

The corporal narrated how police coordinated with the informant in luring the businessman into an ambush.

The salesman explained, “I was reviewing the inventory when the informant returned and asked me for the bag.

“I had just handed it to him when policemen entered and seized me. I explained to them what happened and entreated them to examine the footage as proof. The informant and his cohorts were arrested.”
