ABU DHABI/RIYADH: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has strongly condemned the attack by Houthi and Saleh militias against the US Navy's USS Mason destroyer in the Red Sea off the coast of Yemen.

The attack amounts to a terrorist act that endangers the international navigation and confirms the continuous escalation by these militias to evade a political solution to the Yemeni crisis, the UAE's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, said in a statement released on Tuesday.

“The rebellion's mentality, that has caused untold miseries to the Yemeni people, continues to influence the actions of these militias,” the ministry added.

The ministry also expressed concern at the repeated targeting of international navigation routes and stressed the need for co-ordination among the countries of the world and rallying efforts of the international community, to eradicate and uproot this evil that endangers international security and to cut off its funding sources.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has also strongly condemned the attack on the US Navy destroyer.

The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) quoted a Saudi official source on Tuesday as describing the attack as a terrorist act that jeopardizes international maritime (security) and a systematized attack carried out by an Iran-backed militia targeting commercial marine at the Strait of Bab El Mandab.

"This attack came after several other recent acts by the Houthi-Saleh alliance continuous breach of commitments and violations of agreement made by the Yemeni people at the National Dialogue Conference and a refusal to abide by the will of the international community and UN Security Council resolution 2216," the source added.
