DUBAI: Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s wife and a passionate interior designer, Gauri Khan, launched her design line in Dubai on Wednesday in association with international design house The First Ferry.

She has carved a niche for herself in the field of interior designing by carrying out solo projects. She surprised many by taking so much time to launch herself professionally.

Gauri, who is also a busy film producer, said she decided to launch her design line professionally because “doing somebody’s personal work is not very exciting.”

“But I took some time as I wanted to be sure about my passion, and was waiting to see how it goes with me. How would I manage my time etc,” she added.

Commenting on her association with The First Ferry, she said, “While working in Mumbai and India, I was confined to my own country. But when you enter in alliance with somebody like The First Ferry, which has international presence in cities like London, Singapore and Dubai, it will automatically take you to another level.”

The First Ferry has many projects to its credit including homes at The Palm, Burj Khalifa and Emirates Hills as well as many reputed restaurants, clubs and corporate offices.

The First Ferry founder, Prateek Chaudhry, said that Gauri has a personal style which she has developed over the years — a style that is as real as her and very innate of her being. This sophistication is further seen in her designs irrespective of the medium she chooses to express it in.

“The spirit of Gauri is unmatchable. She has been doing a lot of her own. Now she has her own product and has a comprehensive understanding of design,” Chaudhry added.

When asked to comment on Dubai from an artist’s perspective, she said, “Fifteen years ago when I came to Dubai, it was like a canvas, and today when I see it, it looks an artist has just spilt very beautiful painting on that canvas.”

She expressed confidence that in the coming years, the Dubai skyline will be as beautiful as the skyline of New York.

Gauri is one of the star wives who have managed to keep themselves away from the limelight and remain grounded. Commenting on this, she said, “I come from a simple background and have a simple lifestyle. Good basic education in Delhi and upbringing has helped me to stay close to reality.”

Calling herself a huge cricket fan, she said, “I love to watch cricket. And IPL is very quick, fast and exciting. I hope Kolkata Knight Riders wins the cup again this time.”
