ABU DHABI: The fourteenth Abu Dhabi Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition (Adihex) is attracting regional and international visitors blending traditional culture and heritage with some of the latest high tech products for hunting and many other outdoor sports and activities.

Adihex, which will continue till Oct 8 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Centre (Adnec), will be open to visitors from 11am till 10pm.

It celebrates the deep-rooted heritage and rich culture of the region in hunting, horsemanship and falconry providing a suitable setting for manufacturers of guns, hunting vehicles, shooting, fishing, falconry, other outdoor sports equipment and accessories.

The five-day show is also showcasing the very popular taxidermy.

Many visitors showed interest in the products on display including lions, deer, reindeer, and rhinoceroses.

Taxidermy is a general term describing the many methods of reproducing a life-like three-dimensional representation of an animal for permanent display where the actual skin (including the fur, feathers or scales) of the specimen is preserved and mounted over an artificial armature.

Adihex 2016 is organised by the Emirates Falconers’ Club (EFC), under the patronage of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Western Region of Abu Dhabi Emirate and Chairman of EFC, with the support of Cultural Programmes and Heritage Festivals Committee - Abu Dhabi. Participants at Adihex include 650 companies from 40 countries.

Most of them have been exhibiting at Adihex for the past years, but 74 are participating in the event for the first time.

Also, a record 126 participants are from the UAE, representing all that the exhibition promotes - from falcon breeders and horse stables to hunting rifles, camping equipment and heritage art.

Many previous popular culture and heritage shows are back, like the Al Ain Zoo’s birds show, the saluki beauty competition or the dog skills demonstration by Abu Dhabi Police’s K9.

This year, the camel auction, for example, has been replaced with an Arabian horse auction.

The space is shared by 75 exhibitors from the UAE and the region, but also from as far as Latvia, Poland, Germany, Belgium, UK, the Netherlands, China and Morocco. The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) will raise awareness efforts in protecting the Emirate’s rich nature and heritage and endangered species and emphasise the need to protect the natural resources of the Emirate.

The EAD stand will host a number of interactive activities designed to communicate with visitors through virtual tours to highlight the unique biodiversity of Abu Dhabi Emirate and the importance of conserving native species, as well as highlight EAD’s role in establishing and managing terrestrial and marine protected areas.

Visitors to EAD’s eco friendly stand, built out of recycled cardboard and wood, will be able to experience a virtual tour of EAD’s key protected areas including Al Wathba Wetland Reserve, Marawah Marine Biosphere Reserve, the Arabian Oryx Protected Area and Qasr Al Sarabeco-reserve.

The EAD welcomes all to visit its stand at ADIHEX from 11am to 10pm. The stand is located in Hall 5.D10 at Adnec. Arabian horses and dogs are the stars of this year’s arena shows at Adihex.

Daily from 11 am to 9 pm throughout the exhibition, there will be several shows, competitions and a new auction for the public.
