FUJAIRAH: Heavy rain lashed various parts of the eastern coast of the country on Saturday accompanied by hailstones, fresh winds and thunder. The rain reportedly continued falling non-stop for an hour which led to accumulation of surface runoff on major roads and roundabouts, while a kids play area of a big mall in Fujairah was flooded with rainwater.

However, despite raining heavily, the temperatures remained high between 35-36˚C during and after the rain.

Sources reported that the rain witnessed on Saturday afternoon in cities of Fujairah, Khor Fakkan, Kalba, Dibba and other areas of Fujairah and Sharjah were incomparable to any rain that fell this year.

As the downpour continued for an hour, families flocked out to the shores and valleys to enjoy the pleasant atmosphere.

Brigadier Rashid Bin Awash, Director of Traffic and Patrol Department in Fujairah Police, confirmed that there were no road accidents reported, as traffic patrols were deployed in the streets and roundabouts to ensure smooth flow of traffic.

Abdullah Mohammed Al Hantubi, Deputy Director of Fujairah Municipality, explained that the Municipality mobilised all its competent teams from the branches of Al-Aqeer and Masafi with all the required equipment.

The teams drained water from the streets and roundabouts. No complaint about property damage due the rain was reported, he added.
