DUBAI: Three fake detectives who accused a driver of being a lawbreaker, detained and robbed him of his and his employer’s valuables were incarcerated on Thursday.

The unemployed Asian trio conducted a fake CID operation, intercepted the Indian driver of a diesel trading company and claimed they were taking him to a police station.

They threatened him, forced him inside their getaway car and sped off towards Silicon Oasis. On the way, they brandished a knife in his face and grabbed his employer’s Dhs64,000.

They also snatched his Dhs400 and two Nokia mobile phones after threatening to knife him in case he did not hand over his wallet and phones. They kicked him out of the car and drove away.

This happened on Jul.15.2013. They were later apprehended and referred to the During Criminal Court on Nov.13.2017. They denied. The court jailed them for one year plus deportation.

The driver told Rashidiyah Police Station he was near his diesel truck at a sandy lot in Ras Al Khor area when a car stopped by him. Three men stepped out claiming they were CID personnel.

They claimed his truck leaked diesel along the street in violation of the law. And that they had to take him to the police station. They grabbed him by the shirt and kidnapped him.

An Omani warrant officer said Bur Dubai Police Station officers nabbed the first defendant over a spate of similar cases. He confessed and said the third one was the mastermind.

They had met at a grocery in Hor Al Anz and devised a plan to rob the driver. “I flashed an ID and told him I was a detective. The third defendant grabbed him and entered him in our car. The second defendant threatened to knife him. I then brandished the knife while the second one frisked the driver, robbed him and pushed him out of the car,” said the first defendant.

An Emirati lieutenant said the second one said he received a Dhs250 share. The third also said he received the same. Police showed stolen items to the victim. He recognised one mobile.
