Abu Dhabi: UAE’s karting prodigy Rashid Al Dhaheri’s track record keeps getting better every season and with him joining the Italian ‘Babyrace’ Team — one of the most famous junior karting teams in the world — the coming season is bound to take him a few notches higher.

Competing at local and international circuits, the 8-year-old karting star has had his skills tested, some of the times by much older contestants, but his exceptional talent has stood him in good stead, wining him podium finishes and awards.

For Rashid the 2016 season has been one his busiest and most challenging as he participated in a number of high profile tournaments in Italy, apart from domestic events. Moving up in age categories (to age 8-10/ 8-12), the Abu Dhabi sensation has been a favourite on the Italian circuit having notched up victories or reached the podium in almost every race in the Parolin Academy Championship, the ROK Championship, Italiano Campionato and the WSK Series.

“It’s very competitive in Italy and I have to drive in all kinds of weather conditions. I am quite small and so the competition is harder for me. But I have learnt to never give up and give my best,” said the young champion here on Wednesday.

Joining Babyrace, which undertakes drivers’ development programs from Karting until GP3, has had a positive impact and helped Rashid hone his skills.
