Smart apps check on traffic jam in Ramadan

DUBAI: Dubai Police are recounting the success of “Accident Now” and “Report a Minor Accident” smart apps on reducing on motor traffic jam during Ramadan.

“If more motorists run these apps, there will not be any issue of traffic jam especially during this month of Ramadan,” said the Director of Dubai Police’s Smart Services Department, Colonel Khalid Al Razooqi.

Through “Accidents Now” commuters can receive voice and written messages alerting them of the locations of accidents and telling them of possible alternative routes to help them avoid traffic jams.

“The app helps commuters to identify accidents and areas clogged with motor traffic jams,” said Nasser Al-Razzouqi.

The motorists can view congested areas on a map showing the streets of Dubai. “They can therefore opt for alternative routes.”

BIG NUMBER OF USERS

Col Al-Razzouqi said that more than 7,405 motorists have used the “Report a Minor Accident” smart app during the first five months of this year.

“It is a simple tool. It guides on what to fill-in the spaces: the vehicle type, your driving license number, the road on which the accident has occurred among others. Within minutes, drivers receive the police report for the accident which they can take to their respective insurance companies.”

Col Al-Razzouqi appealed to the public to “take advantage of this technological offer” not only to save them from accidents but also to save time as they would avoid streets congested with traffic.
