DUBAI: The Dubai Court of First Instance sent a 29-year-old jobless Egyptian to three years behind bars on charges of kidnapping 7 Asian housemaids from the Dubai International Airport, unlawful deprivation of freedom, fraud, embezzlement and forgery. The court also ordered the suspect’s deportation after serving the jail term.

The suspect reportedly deluded the victims by claiming that he represented the recruitment office that brought them to the UAE.

The suspect took the victims’ passports and then accompanied them to separate rooms in Dubai, where they were detained.

One of the victims, a 35-year-old Indonesian said, she and other two maids had been brought to the UAE to work for an Emirati family by a recruitment office in Ajman.

She added, “At the Dubai International Airport, the suspect headed to us and took our passports and cell phones after claiming he was the representative of the recruitment office. Then he took us to a flat in Dubai, where he detained us for three days. we escaped and took a taxi to the recruitment office in Ajman.”
