DUBAI: Major General Mohamed Saif Al Zafeen, Director of Dubai Traffic, expressed his deep regret over the death of Dr Ali Al Nimiri, the first Emirati plastic surgeon and a professional motorist.

Al Nimiri died in a road accident on Thursday evening. The driver that caused the accident, an Indian, entered the junction after he jumped the red signal before colliding with Al Nimiri’s motorbike. The latter died due to the force of the collision, Al Zafeen pointed out.

Al Nimiri was heading to the Floating Bridge after he left Al Khaleej Hospital on his Harley motorbike. He died on the spot due to the critical wounds sustained in the crash.

It was shown through the initial examination that the deceased was not wearing a protective helmet. So he sustained serious injuries to his head when the car hit him, throwing him several metres into the air before he fell to the ground, police official revealed.

Dr Ali Al Nimiri was the first plastic surgery consultant in the UAE, served as Vice President of the Arab Doctors Union and was the Head of the Burns Department at Rashid Hospital.

As many as six accidents were monitored during the past two days in Dubai, leading to the deaths of 2 other people and injuries to 4 others, revealed Al Zafeen.

A runover incident took place on Sheikh Zayed Road, causing critical wounds to one person who was transferred to a hospital.

Another accident took place in Jumeirah Village when two vehicles collided with each other, killing both the drivers.

In a separate incident, which took place in front of Al Mulla Plaza, two cars collided but no casualties were reported.
