VP honours Sewa Chairman

SHARJAH: His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, honoured the Chairman of Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (Sewa), Dr Eng Rashid Al Leem, with the title “Ambassador of Knowledge of the UAE”.

Sheikh Mohammed bestowed this ceremonial title to Al Leem during the graduation ceremony of Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Government (MBRSG), which graduated four batches on Tuesday. Al Leem underlined the directives and support of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. He pointed out to the need to activate the role of knowledge management and dissemination of knowledge in the development of performance in all government departments.

Al Leem is a seasoned administrator, intellectual, author and highly decorated personality by several universities in the UAE and abroad. He was honoured with this title for his endeavours in disseminating knowledge in the community and generating ideas for sustainable development suitable for the present and future generations.

Al Leem, commenting on the honour, said: “The choice of Ambassador of Knowledge of the UAE and the honour by Sheikh Mohammed carries great responsibility. It motivates me towards making greater efforts to strengthen the leadership of our country at the regional and international levels through knowledge. It also emphasises the importance of sustainable development and value of knowledge in the cultural, social and economic aspects of our daily life.”

He added: “Knowledge is the backbone of development and a pillar of social progress. Development is a cornerstone of the prosperity and welfare of the people, and by creating a competitive environment, it stimulates innovation and creativity.”

The UAE has won international prestige through instilling the value of knowledge as a key part in the development plans, strategies and sustainability, as the single way to progress.

He lauded the efforts of the leaders of the nation in the development of universities and higher colleges and institutions, scientific research, encouraging inventions and innovative ideas, new technologies etc.

Al Leem is a Sharjah-born UAE national who received a doctorate in philosophy from the University of Salford in the UK and a number of honorary doctorates from the US. He is a leading thinker in economic and business leadership development skills..
