SHARJAH: Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Supreme Council for Family Affairs, and Wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, received guests from the 37th Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF), at the Al Badee Palace.

Sheikha Jawaher Al Qasimi praised their presence that fills the book fair with different activities and programmes, in addition to exchanging of cultures and enhancing human relations.

She pointed out that the success of the SIBF is due to the efforts and directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, who works to promote reading in the society, and his belief that reading is the most important pillar of civilisation and progress. He also supports readers and publishers by allocating an annual award of Dhs1 million during the book fair.

She expressed her pride at the new generation of female Emirati writers, as well as those who have the talent for drawing and the artistic output for books.

Sheikha Jawaher said that the great demand for the book fair shows that the love of books and reading is increasing every year, so much so, that the fair has become the third most important book fair in the world.

Highlighting Japan, this year's SIBF 2019 Guest of Honour, Sheikha Jawahar said that Japanese culture is a historic culture that reflects the traditions of the Japanese society, which helped in rebuilding Japan, and making it the central economic power in the world.

Sheikha Jawaher highlighted the role of Arab writers in preserving the Arabic language and following up on what the public writes on social media. They have the humility to correct their mistakes without embarrassment. In addition, the writer, himself, must be careful while using the correct writing tools to deliver the right message in the right way.

The meeting ended with the presentation of poems by two guests.
