SHARJAH: Two half centuries by Saqib Shah and Ali Azmat with 40 not out by Mohammad Shaifique ensured Abu Dhabi Gymkhana edged past Alubond Tigers by three wickets in the 39th Bukhatir League ‘A’ Division Tournament organised by the Sharjah Cricket Council at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

Chasing a competitive total of 259 to win, Abu Dhabi Gymkhana openers Arfan Haider and Saqib mixed caution with aggression to get 73 runs for the first wicket.

Arfan scored 45 from 61 deliveries including six boundaries and a six while Saqib hit a 78-ball 66 with the help of six fours and two sixes to put the Abu Dhabi team in a commanding position.

Ali Azmat continued the good work ensuring a smooth sail as he scored 57 facing 70 balls consisting of four boundaries.

But Alubond Tigers’ Sultan Ahmed bagged three quick wickets and Abu Dhabi Gymkhana looked to losing the track with five wickets falling in the space of just 58 runs.

Needing 41 runs from the final five overs, Mohammad Shafique (11 not out, 7b, 2x4) took Abu Dhabi Gymkhana past the target in the final ball of the innings.

Shafique’s unbeaten 40 came from 39 deliveries with the help of two boundaries and a six that got him the man of the match award.

Earlier, batting by choice, Alubond Tigers also got off to a flying start with Abdul Shakoor (80, 87b, 9x4, 2x6) and Abdul Rauf (39, 68b, 5x4) putting on a 117-run partnership for the opening wicket.

Meanwhile, Yash Kumar struck three important wickets as Al Madina Cricket Academy scored a close four-run victory over Youth Cricket Academy in the SCC Inter Academy U-16 Tournament organised by the Sharjah Cricket Council at the Al Dhaid Cricket Village.

Batting first, Al Madina posted a competitive 142 for nine in 20 overs thanks to a fine knock from Faiz who took 24 balls to hit 30 including three boundaries and one six.

He shared an important 43-run association with Omair (24) as Al Madina scored 82 runs half way through the innings.

But a three wicket-haul by Shaariq slowed down the run flow before late cameos by Rabi (10) and Abrar (10) gave Al Madina a healthy total to defend.

In reply, a 76-run opening partnership by Mujahid (37, 20b, 6x4, 1x6) and Abdullah (10, 15b, 2x4) meant Youth CA were headed for a comfortable win. But Bakir struck twice while Yash Kumar removed three wickets to completely derail Youth CA’s progress.

Zain Ul Abdin scored 21 from 11 deliveries containing three fours and a six to revive hopes but Janam took two wickets during the end to Youth CA hopes as they finished 138 in 18 overs. In another match, Maxway Cricket Academy scored a 70-run victory against ECT Dubai.

Tigers rout Ibsons

Alubond Tigers registered their third successive win in the Dubai Cricket Council’s (DCC) Elite Cup.

At the Fairground Oval they routed Ibsons CC by 108 runs with Shakoor scoring a ton and Nasir Aziz a half century to propel their team to a healthy 250-8, while the bowlers bundled their opponents out for 142.

Meanwhile Shakoor in the company of the tailenders went on to get his hundred which was embellished with 11 fours.

Ibsons struggled right from the onset. Ariz Kamal ripped through the tail with 4-33, while Abdur Rauf was impressive with 6-3-7-2.
