Youth murders brother over dad’s car

DUBAI: A sword and knife duel between brothers fighting for their father’s car left one dead, the Dubai Criminal Court heard on Wednesday.

The Arab youth, 21, knifed his brother to death outside their father’s house in Nad Al Hamar at around 9:40pm on Jul.10.2017. A countryman, 23, who witnessed the brawl declined to notify the police.

The youth and the countryman also abused amphetamine, methamphetamine, alprazolam, meprobamate, carisoprodol and procyclidine, according to records at the Rashidiyah Police Station.

Both denied anything to do with the murder but admitted having abused the psychoactive drugs. The youth asked for time to find a lawyer. The hearing was adjourned till Jan.24.

An Emirati policeman said the police was chasing the youth when the countryman arrived in a car. The youth ran, knocked the car’s door, fell, stood and jumped in. The countryman sped off.

The severely injured deceased was admitted to the Rashid Hospital’s ICU. An Emirati sergeant said the youth was seized with a ring box. The countryman was seized with a knife.

The countryman told police the youth and the deceased disputed over their father’s car that was at the hands of the youth. The youth refused to hand it to his deceased when he asked for it.

The deceased picked up a sword and challenged the youth to follow him outside the house for a duel. The youth got a knife.  During the fight the deceased stabbed the youth on the left part of the chest.

The youth knifed him several times in the stomach until he collapsed in a pool of blood. A family member, the youth and the countryman carried the deceased into the countryman’s car.

The countryman drove him to a clinic in the area. Immediately after entering him inside the clinic the youth and the countryman fled. They hurled the knife on the way.

A Syrian doctor at the clinic said the deceased who had cuts on his stomach and chest “was not breathing and his heart was not beating. I took him to Rashid Hospital in an ambulance.”

The sergeant added that the murder accused had a cut on his finger, an assault contusion around his left eye and a bleeding injury on the left part of his chest.

An Emirati pensioner, 57, testified before prosecutors that there were problems between his two sons, most especially a grudge about who had the right to use his car.
