Maid lands in jail after suicide bid

FUJAIRAH: The Fujairah Police Station received a tipoff from an Emirati family, reporting that their Asian maid had swallowed something and was dying.

The police and an ambulance rushed to the spot after receiving the information and took the maid to Fujairah hospital in a critical condition. The maid was admitted. Medical tests showed that she had swallowed soap powder but the medical team helped save her.

On being questioned, she confessed that she attempted to commit suicide due to a dispute with her sponsor’s wife.

The case was referred to the Public Prosecution where the maid, APT, was charged with attempted suicide. She was referred to the court where she was sentenced to a month in jail.

 Maids held

According to a  report by Abdulhakem Mahmoud. the Public Prosecution in Fujairah referred two Asian maids to court on charges of causing harm to an Emirati family. They reportedly urinated and put fingernails and eyelashes in their food.

The security bodies at the GHQ of the Fujairah Police received a complaint from an Emirati family that a controversy between their two housemaids led one of them to confess that she had put urine, remains of fingernails and eyelashes in their food.

Consequently, the CID went to the family’s house and arrested the maids. They admitted that they had put the waste in the food of the family that is consists of a mother and her daughter.
