DUBAI: The 69th Republic Day of India was celebrated on Friday across the UAE with traditional enthusiasm and fanfare. Indian Ambassador to the UAE Navdeep Singh Suri unfurled the national Tricolor at the Embassy premises, while Consul General of India in Dubai Vipul hoisted the national flag at the Consulate premises in Dubai. Flag hoisting ceremonies were also held at the premises of Indian community centres in Sharjah and other Emirates.

In Dubai, a fun-filled programme was organised by the Indian High School, Dubai. The school echoed with patriotic fervour as the crowd of more than 10,000 flocked over the premises to share the joy and pride of India’s big day. The spirit perfectly reflected the pride every Indian feels for the nation’s achievements.

Consul General of India in Dubai Vipul was invited as the Chief Guest to the event. He led the flag hoisting ceremony followed by singing of the National Anthem of India. Vyjayanthimala Bali, parliamentarian and former Indian actress, was present as the Guest of Honour.

Addressing the gathering, Vipul said that India’s diversity was visible as thousands of people came together to celebrate the occasion. He also announced a number of measures taken up by the consulate for the betterment of the community, including Open Day at the consulate on last Friday of every month, and formation of advisory committees to connect in a better way with the community.

School chairman Sunil Umrao Singh addressed the masses lifting the spirit of nationalism even higher.

To mark the prominence of the day, a grand celebration was held in the school, and a series of performances were put up by the students and staff. The cultural programmes put together by the students included various forms of dances and drills put up by more than 2,000 students. The Punjab Public School (Nabha, India) was also present for the event on a Round Square Student Exchange Programme to revel in the celebrations.

Reception

On the eve of India’s 69th Republic Day, Indian Ambassador to the UAE Navdeep Singh Suri hosted a reception in Abu Dhabi which was graced by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister for Tolerance Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mabarak Al Nahyan, Minister of State for Tolerance Sheikha Lubna Al Qassimi and Minister of State Maitha Al Shamsi, besides members of the diplomatic corps and other dignitaries.

Speaking on the occasion, Suri said, “A year ago, our leaders established a new milestone in our blossoming relationship by signing an agreement that binds us into a comprehensive strategic partnership. During the course of the year, we have seen our partnership acquire some genuinely strategic dimensions.”

He recalled that both Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA) and DP World have announced multi-billion dollar investments in critical areas of India’s infrastructure. India-UAE defense relationship has taken a concrete shape and they will soon be conducting their first bilateral naval exercises off the coast of Abu Dhabi.

In the field of energy, the two countries are witnessing a transformation from a traditional buyer-seller relationship into one that will soon encompass strategic reserves and collaborations in upstream and downstream sectors. The launch of Nayef 1, a UAE nano-satellite on an Indian launch vehicle, has sent the message that space just might be the new frontier of this partnership.

Speaking about the forthcoming UAE visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Suri said that it reflects the dynamism in India-UAE relationship and also the special connect between leaders of the two nations.

“I am absolutely confident that with his visit, we will see the dawn of a truly golden era,” he added.
