ANKARA: An Istanbul court on Friday convicted a man for “intentionally” attempting to murder internationally renowned Turkish singer Ibrahim Tatlises, the state-run Anatolia news agency reported. The court sentenced Abdullah Ucmak to 36.6 years in prison on charges of “forming and leading an organisation to commit crimes,” and “intentionally attempting to murder Ibrahim Tatlises,” according to Anatolia.

Tatlises, 61, suffered paralysis on the left side of his body and spent almost two months at a clinic in Germany after being shot in the head in Istanbul in 2011. The motivation of the attack is still unknown.

Called the “Turkish Pavarotti” or “Emperor,” Tatlises is one of the most famous singers in Turkey and also enjoys popularity across the Middle East.
