Shaadaab S Bakht: The exemplarily selfless martyrs of UAE

They allowed the cartridge to pass through their bodies but refused to drink from the chalice of humiliation. They generously offered their chests to shield bullets to fend off the enemy’s attacks from reaching the heights where truth would have been slain, where the good would have been devoured and where the sceptre of evil would have enjoyed a deceptive glitter.

They died young but not before the world was made to sit up and take note of their valour. They used up their lives so that we could sleep in peace. They were the bravest of Emiratis.

The strongest of the nations is known by its commitment to humanity and world peace. The United Arab Emirates has undoubtedly lived up to that belief. Its servicemen proved that once again. They have been laying down their lives to keep its colours — red, green, white, black — shine through the challenges that we face today.

The soul of battlefield victory is an unalloyed mix of courage and grit. More important is the unflinching willingness to uphold truth even if the price is one’s life. The UAE soldiers have been displaying that and in laudable measure in Yemen.

The UAE armymen have been successfully defeating the evil forces of destabilisation in Yemen. They greatly helped regain areas that were under threat from the rebels. They are ensuring that the peace-loving people of Yemen get back their government founded on the wishes of the ruled and not inhumane campaigners, not architects of devastation, not scrap heaps masquerading as agents of socio-political change and not deviants high on the hooch of ruin.

The civilised world and a pacifist society can’t be a mute witness to the coronation of the wicked. Therefore, the UAE leadership rightly flew in to rescue a suffering people and a wronged polity from an unending morass.

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, rightly said on Saturday, “The martyrs were noble examples of loyalty, dedication and bravery… they were the best ambassadors of the United Arab Emirates in humanitarian spheres and the best soldiers of the honourable war.”

He said, “The martyrs will always remain a source of our pride and national symbols of glory and inspiration for generations.”

Sheikh Mohamed prayed to Allah Almighty to bless the soul of the martyrs with mercy in Paradise and to bestow patience and solace upon their families.

Also on Saturday Lt General Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, praised their loyalty, bravery and heroic sacrifices in the war aimed at restoring security and stability for the brotherly people of Yemen.

Now sacrifices, they couldn’t have been greater in depth and heavier in love, love of the motherland.

The martyrs, some of them teenagers, decided to walk right into the enemy’s camp because the only way to deal with a viper’s fangs is to crush them. The uniformed Emiratis did that and successfully and won a place in a million hearts and for hundreds of years. The pages of military history couldn’t have asked for a better chapter.

May the martyrs’ souls rest in peace.
