RIO DE JANEIRO: Brazil’s official Agencia Brasil news agency says two people died when the bus they were riding was torched.

The report says a group of people attacked the bus with sticks and stones as it arrived at its final destination, a park in northern Sao Paulo early on Sunday morning. They then threw flammable materials into the bus before fleeing.

Neither of the two passengers who died in the blaze has been identified.

The incident took place amid a monthslong wave of violence in Sao Paulo that has seen a spike in the number of homicides and buses frequently torched.
