KOCHI: The port city of Kochi in Southern state of Kerala is all set to welcome the three-day ‘Abu Dhabi Week’ to be held here from Friday, according to official sources. The Department of Culture and Tourism, Abu Dhabi, which promotes tourism and cultural heritage of the Emirate, is organising the dual-city exhibition. After the stint at Kochi the exhibition will move to Kolkata in West Bengal where the show will begin from 23rd February.

“Owing to the growing levels of disposable income in the hands of Indian travellers, we believe that India is a crucial market with a potential to expand the tourism inflow into Abu Dhabi,” said Mubarak Al Nuaimi, Director Promotions and Overseas Offices of the department.

The ‘Abu Dhabi Week’ strives to amplify not only the splendour of Abu Dhabi but also highlight its pocket-friendliness in terms of family vacations, solo travels, film shoots, trade and business, and destination weddings, among others, Al Nuaimi said.

The exhibition will showcase Abu Dhabi and take the visitors on a virtual tour of the Emirate, highlighting its grandeur, culinary delicacies, art and literature. It will also have a variety of interactive experiences, including of the Ferrari World, the Desert Safari, and the majestic Louvre.

There are plenty of fun and surprises in store for visitors. Visitors to Abu Dhabi Week will have the chance to experience Abu Dhabi’s culture and beauty, with the essence of the emirate transported to the Indian city — bringing traditional Ayala dancers and enticing Arabic cuisine. This is a unique opportunity to experience Abu Dhabi without a passport, and make some lasting memories while you sample just some of what the emirate has to offer, with competitions, quizzes, kids’ activities and, of course, fantastic prizes, the organisers say.

Visitors can expect an incredible range of installations, including the Louvre Abu Dhabi, a traditional souk market, a history wall, and a chance to walk through the desert sands of ‘Al Dhafra’. Popular South Indian playback singer Rimi Tomy will perform at the event on Feb.18.

The Kochi event will be conducted on the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium from 4pm on three days beginning with 16th.

Tourism has been a silent force fostering the relations between the two regions and has stimulated both economies. Abu Dhabi welcomed 320,000 Indian hotel guests last year with a year-on-year increase of 11 per cent, tourism statistics say.
