RAS AL KHAIMAH: Dr Abdullah Bin Mohammed Balhaif Al Nuaimi, Minister for Infrastructure Development, on Wednesday officially inaugurated Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) Ring Road, which connects the south and north of the city and which geographically begins as an extension of the Emirates Highway from the point leading to Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Road through to Ras Al Khaimah-Shaam Road leading to Oman’s Musandam.

The 30-km long road is built at a total budget of Dhs410 million. The road is carried out in two phases with the ministry continuing to build a number of second phase bridges without affecting the traffic flow. The remaining work is expected to be completed during the last quarter of this year.

The road has three lanes in each direction at a design speed of 140 km/hour and is provided with many crossing points and 10 intersections to ensure smooth traffic to and from Ras Al Khaimah quarters, Al Nuaimi said, noting that the traffic capacity of the road is up to 60,000 vehicles per direction per day.

One of the most important roads in the northern Region, Ras Al Khaimah Ring Road is a fast connecting point for the entire region and has been designed according to the world’s highest standards that meet traffic safety conditions. The road represents a basis for sustainable development and is one of the UAE’s infrastructure landmarks that will contribute to the economic, commercial and constructional development in the UAE.
