Hot weather forecast as dust storms hit UAE

ABU DHABI: Dust storms engulfed most parts of the country on Thursday affecting the horizontal visibility, while the weather was generally very hot.

Meanwhile, some areas of Al Ain on Thursday witnessed medium to heavy rain, especially the southern areas of the city and along Abu Dhabi-Al Ain Road.

While the majority of the areas experienced a cloudy weather associated by high humidity.

In some areas, heavy rain was seen associated by winds over east of Khazna, south of Swihan, Al Waqun and Ain Al Faydah. This led to surface run-offs along the streets. Other areas witnessed moderate rains, such as the Anakah, Dumtah and Al Dhahra.

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) warned of low visibility of less than 2,000 metres over some eastern parts of the country with formation of cumulus clouds, which were forecast to be associated with rain and active winds. The storms continued stirring dust and dirt until 8pm. The weather on Friday is expected to be hot and dusty in general, according to the NCM.

The clouds may tower over various parts in the country, which are forecast to be cumulus over the eastern, southern and interior areas. The winds will be moderate to active in general, stirring dust along various areas in the country, the NCM added. The sea is also expected to be rough to moderate in the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Oman.

It also indicated that the weather on Saturday will be hot and dusty in general, while the clouds will continue towering over various parts in the country, with the probability to be cumulus over the eastern, southern and interior areas. The winds will be moderate to active in general, stirring up dust. The relative humidity will be high during the night and early morning over some interior, coastal and northern parts. The sea is expected to be light to moderate in the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Oman, the NMC added.
